A Portable Document Format is a non-editable computer application with which you can print and edit the text and graphics. A person can transfer these portable files from one system to another with different configuration. One of the most advantageous features of the document is its security. A user can encrypt these files with the passwords for security reasons. You can prevent the content of the file from being copied or edited for malicious reasons.

Reasons of opting for PDF password encryption:

The advantage of encrypting the files is that you can safeguard your content from unauthorized persons intending to use your knowledge for personal reasons or gains. There are many confidential documents prepared by government officials, lawyers, doctors or forensic departments. Even educational institutes require protecting their content which they prepare as question papers for examinations. Medical doctors utilize PDF documents for saving their content for forensic reports. Police or Crime branches can store essential information in non-editable encrypted Portable Document Format files. The encryption of files has become necessary in order to prevent the computer users to keep the confidential data intact. Using PDF is also easy and manageable as it is an electronic format. The electronic files are not prone to loss or damage unlike paper documents. Even if these files get corrupted you can recover them using recovery tools.

How to encrypt your PDF files?

You can encrypt the Portable Document Format files by using several types of computer programs. These computer programs help you to either use 'user' or 'owner' password. A 'user' password is the one in which as an author you can disable or lock any feature in the Portable Document Format file. For instance, you can disable the ability to either copy, edit, view or print the content of the file published on the Internet. In this way, you can customize a Portable Document Format computer application according to your needs and preferences. Another way is to use 'owner' password for a Portable Document Format file which can be opened only by an authorized user. These are the two secure ways to protect the content of your Portable Document Format files.
